Job Title

Welder

Job Description

The role will include: –

  • Working in the tank house manufacturing our tankers
  • Welding in both Mild Steel and Stainless Steel
  • Fabrication
  • Maintaining a clean, organised and productive work area
  • Adhering, and working, to Health and Safety regulations
  • Full training will be given to the right individual
Job Requirements
  • Background working in a production environment is an advantage
  • Forklift truck and overhead crane licence an advantage
  • Mild Steel and Stainless Steel Fluxcord Mig welding experience is essential
  • Experience in both light and heavy gauge welding is desirable
  • Pipe welding experience is desirable
  • Ability to weld thickness 4mm – 10mm
  • Ability to read drawings
  • Ability to use your own initiative
  • Fabrication and fitting skills is desirable
  • Ability to work under pressure
Package
  • Starting salary is between £24,000 – £27,000 dependent on skills and experience with the ability to progress to £31,000

Job Title

Advanced Apprenticeship in Engineering (Fabrication and Welding)

Job Description
  • You will have up to 4 years to complete your Advanced Apprenticeship.
  • You will be on site for the first week for your induction process.
  • The first 8 – 10 months will be at our training provider.
  • All further years will follow the format 1 day a week at College and the other 4 days experiencing our various departments. During this time you will have a mentor on site and a monthly visit from the training officer from the College.
  • While at Whale you will be involved in welding, fitting and fabrication as well as developing a basic understanding of pneumatics and hydraulics.
  • Your working week will be 37/ 39.5 hours
Job Requirements
  • Expected GCSE, or equivalent, C and above in English, Maths and a Core Science. All offers will depend on the minimum academic standard being meet.
  • That you can make your own way to Whale and College.
  • That you are interested in a hands on manufacturing environment.
  • Attention to Detail.
  • Organised.
  • Ability to work on own initiative.
  • Dependable.
  • Team Player.
  • Willing to Learn.
  • Mechanical Aptitude.
Benefits
  • The starting salary will be approximately £12,751.44 per annum, with there being the opportunity for increases.
  • You will also have access to our pension scheme, life cover and BUPA at specific times within your apprenticeship.
  • Once back at Whale full time you will be entitled to the relevant bonus scheme, subject to standard rules and conditions.
  • 5 weeks holiday which need to be taken during college holiday.
  • Sick pay scheme, which is available once staff status has been given. Staff Status is attainable once you have been back at Whale for 12 months and dependent upon your attendance record.  This then operates on a flexible approach to making up lost hours.
  • The guidelines for all of these are laid down in our handbook.
Other
  • Once we have received your application it will be carefully considered and successful candidates will be invited to an interview and site tour. The next stage will be a 1-day assessment, during which time you will take part in some basic tests.
    After this stage a final decision will be made.

Job Description
  • You will have up to 4 years to complete your Advanced Apprenticeship.

  • Become a Skilled engineer, this job role will enable you to understand how our products are built from start to finish. Your job role will focus upon cutting the amount of manufacturing time spent per vehicle by drawing up component parts, Reviewing, altering and updating drawings, working with our production & technical team to keep drawings up to date,
  • Your working week will be 37 / 39.5 hours

  • Become an engineer, this job role will enable you to understand how our products are built from start to finish. Your job role will focus upon creating quotes and specification; letter writing; tender submissions; marketing / PR work; interfacing with customers; liaising with the engineering department
  • Your working week will be 37 / 39.5 hours
