SP HOLDING GROUP ADDS TO ITS SCHOOL OF WHALES

Having already this year committed to investing approximately £1million in additional vehicles from Whale Tankers and revealed a new group structure and corporate image in the process, it will come as little surprise that an SP Holding’s fleet newcomer is putting in an appearance on the Whale Tankers stand at PAWRS. Indeed even up to the show opening, SP Holding’s Managing Director, Steve Holding, was still furnishing Whale Tankers with additional vehicle orders.

The latest specification is for a high volume JetVac tanker with overhead loading boom that is currently in build. To be supplied with a Volvo FES 4 x 2 rigid chassis, the 18 tonne GVW vehicle features a 1600-gallon water/sludge tank. Once commissioned, some 28 vehicles out of a total SP Holding fleet of 56 will be Whale!

“The Whale product can be summed up in one word – fantastic!” injects an enthusiastic Steve. “Whale tankers are quite simply the best that money can buy and their ability to do the job goes without question. Having tried a number of competitor products in the past, in my opinion nothing comes close to Whale, not only in terms of how well engineered the product is, but the back-up that Whale provides. Their engineers are always dropping into check how things are going and they are very pro-active at making suggestions.

“Overall, we enjoy what can best be described as a fantastic relationship with them and we see them continuing to play a major part in our future development,” he added.

In addition to this latest vehicle order from the Telford-based drainage services, truck and plant hire, and events specialist, this year’s intake has included three jetting vans that the company is deploying to support its ongoing contract with Severn Trent Water. Additionally, a further three High Volume Combination (HVC) tankers are also in the pipeline, as is an articulated tanker and KiloWhale – a high volume jetvac vacuum tanker that is effective for deep sewer cleaning and maintenance.

Not surprisingly, given that half of the SP Holding fleet is Whale, included within the line-up is a hybrid of vehicle types that have been specified to service an ever-expanding product offering that continues to set the benchmark when it comes to Steve’s vision of problem solving through innovation. Today, for example, SP Holding deploys Whale vehicles that range from van packs, articulated tankers, rigids, and 2000 and 3000-gallon vacuum tankers, to specialist and highly sophisticated vehicle types such as the aforementioned KiloWhale. Most recently, SP Holding has just ordered a twin pump Kaiser-Whale, a sewer cleaning Jet-Vac with continuous dirty water recycling.

Commenting on behalf of Whale, Commercial Director, Chris Anderson said: “Over recent years, SP Holding has grown to be a very important Whale customer. We have great respect for Steve and his entire team and we are confident that they will continue to enjoy the growth they are looking achieve in a very short period of time. Steve not only has great vision, he has a proven ability to deliver on propositions and is always keen to embrace the evolving needs of an ever-changing marketplace.”

Remaining family-operated, SP Holding occupies a 32-acre site that is home to a fully equipped three bay workshop. Having moved into a new office suite in 2006, the company aims to develop additional buildings onsite into purpose-built training facilities. As Steve states: “We already deploy considerable time and effort into training and employee development on-site, and this is something that will form the mainstay of our business moving forward. We are keen to continue developing our skills base and already a enjoy good relationship with local schools and colleges, particularly in relation to driver development via NVQ schemes.”

Under its new Group operating structure, SP Holding incorporates divisions covering commercial, residential, sales and hire and events.
