Whale See Balfour Boom
Balfour Beatty Utility Solutions (BBUS), working specifically with the service and maintenance requirements of the UK’s major utilities, has just taken delivery of two High Volume JetVacs from Whale Tankers.
Built on a DAF chassis, the 26 tonne JetVacs boast a capacity of 11,820 litres. Fitted with a 120 metre Trelleborg sewer jetting hose, they can deliver up to 273 litres per minute at 2,200psi while the vacuum system features a 1,500cfm liquid ring exhauster with a Mistral 401 pump for additional vacuum and pressure.
A special feature of the new JetVacs is the spiral boom storage system which stores
12.5 metres of hose in a cassette system – this vastly reduces the need for manual handling. Additional lengths of loading hose only need to be added when working at depths in excess of 8 metres below ground.
Both new vehicles will be utilised on waste water contracts throughout the country for major clients including United Utilities, Anglian Water, Severn Trent Water, Yorkshire Water and South West Water.
BBUS Head of Plant and Transport, Stephen Jackson, commented: “We selected Whale Tankers because they have a proven track record in producing a quality product with an excellent maintenance service and with blue chip clients like ours, that’s essential.”
He continued, “In addition, we felt that the spiral boom storage system, which will make the hose easier and faster to use, is a real innovation. In fact, we are confident that, as this company is specifically focussed on utility solutions, the JetVacs will prove valuable across the business.”
Whale’s Regional Sales Director, Richard Booth, added: “We are delighted to continue our working relationship with Balfour Beatty Utility Solutions. There is a lot of hard work going on at Whale Tankers to offer a wide range of innovative options for our customers. In particular, the issue of reducing manual handling is a high priority for many of our customers and we at Whale are addressing this requirement.”
BBUS, the leading utility solutions provider, delivers a broad range of services across the water and wastewater infrastructure including: design and build of new distribution and trunk mains, water network rehabilitation; network repair and maintenance; trunk main cleaning; mechanical and electrical maintenance and sewer flooding solutions.
BBUS also provides essential gas, electricity and telecommunications distribution and maintenance services for many of the largest utility companies in the UK and abroad.
